Tomorrow’s big race in Cook County is the States Attorney race. If you are outside Cook County, you will likely hear of this race as Burke-is-a-Republican/Harris-is-a-Democrat. Inside Cook County, that’s not how it’s being played.
In Chicago, the line is that Burke (the White Woman there) is a staunchly pro-abortion candidate who will ensure that women have free access to abortions without getting harassed by jerks outside the clinic, and Harris (the African American fellow there) is both anti-abortion and anti-Union. If it’s not true, he’s not doing a great job of rebutting it.
They are both lobbing bombs at each other that each took money from Republicans, but Burke is saying that Harris donated money personally to Republicans and anti-choice candidates on both sides of the aisle.
Harris is being endorsed by the Chicago Teacher’s Union, which has carried races before; but Burke has the support of a lot of Unions.
Long story short: it doesn’t mean what you’re being told that it means. And, frankly, Cook County is going to have a great States Attorney regardless of who wins.
This is going to be a tight race. But this isnt a red v blue race. This is a “Who’s more blue?” race. And, my money is on Burke.
